Make It Your Own: Customise Your Evening
Every private experience can be shaped around you. A few popular additions:
- A romantic setup, with flowers, a small cake, or a special touch arranged discreetly.
- A sunset and dinner combination, with a table booked for after the sail. [Link to the matching restaurant, if you offer it.]
- A longer sail, if you want more time on the water.
- A visit to an island or Nubian village, before or after the sail. [Confirm availability.]
- A family-friendly version, with life jackets for children and a shorter route.
- Combine with a day tour such as the Philae Temple by day and a sunset felucca in the evening. [Link to Signature Day Tours and Aswan & Nubia Tours.]
Is This Experience Right for You?
It is a good fit if you want something calm and beautiful after a day of touring, you are celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary, or you simply like being on the water.
It may not be the best fit if you prefer to be active throughout the evening, as a felucca is deliberately slow, or if you are uncomfortable on small boats. Feluccas are simple boats, so please tell us about any mobility concerns when you enquire.
Good to Know
It depends on the wind. A felucca moves by sail, so the route and speed change with the breeze. On very still evenings, the boat may drift slowly, and on windy days the route may be adjusted for comfort and safety. This is part of the charm, and your captain will make the best of it.
Facilities. Feluccas are simple wooden boats and typically have no toilet on board. We recommend using facilities before boarding.
Seating and comfort. Seating is on cushions, with some shade. Getting on and off involves a short step, and we help you aboard.
Safety. Life jackets are available on board. Please tell us if you are travelling with young children or anyone who is not a confident swimmer.
What to wear and bring. Light clothing, with a thin layer for after sunset when the breeze cools. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for the early part of the sail. Soft-soled shoes or sandals are best on board.
Photography. Sunset on the Nile is made for photography. Keep your camera or phone secure when moving around the boat.
Best time of year. Evenings are most comfortable from October to April. In the hotter months the late sail is a welcome relief from the heat, and we time it accordingly.
Sunset times. These change through the year, and we adjust your pickup time to match.
Children and older guests. Tell us ages and mobility in advance, and we will arrange the boarding point and pace accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the felucca sunset sail?
About 1.5 to 2 hours on the water, depending on the season and the wind. [Adjust.]
Is the sail private?
Yes. You have the felucca to yourself, with your own party only.
What if there is no wind?
The felucca will move slowly, and some evenings are very still. Your captain will make the best of the conditions. On a calm evening, the light and the quiet are still beautiful.
Is there a toilet on board?
Feluccas typically do not have one, so we recommend using facilities before you board.
Is it safe, and are there life jackets?
Life jackets are available on board. Please let us know if you are travelling with young children or anyone who is not a confident swimmer. [Confirm.]
Is the felucca suitable for children?
Yes, with supervision and life jackets. Tell us ages in advance.
Can we have dinner afterwards?
Yes. We can arrange a table for after the sail.
Can I bring alcohol on board?
This depends on the boat and the arrangements, so please ask us in advance. [Adjust to your policy.]
Is it suitable for travellers with limited mobility?
Boarding involves a short step onto a small boat. Please tell us about any mobility needs and we will advise honestly.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We adjust the timing, or reschedule where possible. Weather on the Nile is usually calm, but we will confirm closer to the date. [Adjust to your cancellation policy.]
Can I combine this with other tours?
Yes. It pairs well with a day of temples and monuments. [Link to Signature Day Tours.]
